BIT Renato 10g Single Filter Basket Overview

The BIT Renato series is a new family of precision filter baskets developed by legendary cup tasting champion Sauro Dall’Aglio. A new collaboration with IMS, the Renato 10g Single Filter Basket is a specialized single filter basket with a deliberate “Pozzetto” shape and 293 hole count. Compared to the 8g and 90+ Renato baskets, the 10g works best when paired with more specialty style American coffee blends and single origin beans.

In an effort to revive traditional Italian drinks, like the single shot espresso and true Italian Cappuccino, these baskets were designed with that specific purpose in mind. The Renato also emphasizes brightness and sweetness in the cup while cleaning up and reducing bitterness and astringency.

During extraction, water is naturally encouraged to flow down and towards the center of the puck. As a consequence of the design, shots pulled on the Renato benefit from reduced channeling and more even contact time between water and all areas of the puck.

Leaning more towards the IT in BIT, the Renato series baskets improve in-cup smoothness as is common in Italian espresso tradition and the Renato prefers a slightly coarser grind.
